Do I have to file a tax return for my rental?
Yes, rental income goes in an IR3 return each year. Nestie prepares and files it for you. Even if your rental made a loss, it usually still needs to be returned.
Who actually does the work?
Nestie is run by Playdough, a chartered accounting firm and IRD-registered tax agent in Petone, Wellington. The routine preparation is automated to keep things fast and affordable, but a qualified Chartered Accountant reviews and files every return, and there's a real person to ask if you have a question.
What documents will I need?
Nothing ready to start. After you sign up, you get a short personalised checklist, things like bank statements, rates notices and your mortgage summary, with a plain-English note on what each one is and where to find it. Upload them whenever suits over the following days.
What if my situation is more complicated?
The price adjusts automatically based on your answers, extra properties, short-stay or Airbnb letting, trusts and companies, or a property bought or sold during the year. You see the full breakdown before you pay anything, and it's fixed once you do.
When do I pay?
Half when you sign up, and the other half only after you've reviewed and approved your finished return, before we file it. You never pay the balance for work you haven't seen.
Is my information safe?
Your data is held in New Zealand and Australia and handled by a registered tax agent under professional confidentiality obligations. We only ask for what's needed to prepare your return.
